What I Know

Primary colors are red, blue, and yellow. Secondary colors are purple, orange, and green and you create these colors by mixing the primary colors. Complimentary colors are opposites like red and green, blue and yellow, and purple and orange. the colors are seen together usually on team uniforms because they create a bold affect. Its good to use color to create emphasis along with your brush strokes to add texture. To create shadow in a painting is to mix complimentary colors. To make highlights i would make it lighter with white and then blend it into the object in the painting. To show the distance f an object in a picture i would make it smaller and also make it less defined. The first step to making a painting is to have a picture in your mind of what you want to create. After that you find objects or examples that would help you to actually see what your trying to make. Then you focus on the colors that will be Incorporated. As you go through the steps your main picture in your head changes to fit the painting you've made.

A Painting I Remember

There is a painting in my house of the anatomy of certain flowers. I don't think it is supposed to be an artistic piece, but rather a picture for a science class. There are all different colors but they stay true to the pigment of the leaves and petals of real flowers. i always think of this painting because it's the colors that make it beautiful. It shows that sometimes having artwork be simple can make it stronger.

My Skills as an Artist

Some traits i have that help me with oil painting would be my intrigue of colors i see which helps when i am mixing paints. I also get very motivated when i see something that i would want to draw or paint so i keep thinking about it until my painting is finished. Something i struggle with would be drawing realistically; making things in proportion, shading.

Why i'm Taking Oil Painting

I signed up to take this course because I wanted to become more familiar with oil painting and to improve my painting skills.
